The New Chanel

Chanel. One of the most luxurious fashion houses of our times. Creatively ruled by two of the most notable figures in the fashion world, Coco Chanel and Karl Lagerfeld.

Karl Lagerfeld has been the designer for Chanel for 36 years, one of the most stabile and long term relationships in fashion love affairs. He was not fond of one-night stands when it comes to work, the Kaiser was a designer for Fendi’s fur line for 52 years.

One can’t think of Chanel and not think of Karl, and vice versa. He was the one that integrated the interlocked “CC” monograph of Coco Chanel’s name in the designs, he introduced the Chanel Moon Boots, and gave new life and meaning to Coco’s favoured flower, the camellia. Before Karl’s taking over, Chanel was considered a “near-dead” brand, he was even advised not to work there, but yet, he took a chance, and creatively nurtured the label all this time. Ever since the devastating news of Karl’s passing took the fashion lover’s by storm, everyone was asking the same question “What after Karl?”. He needed a successor. The name was chosen, Virginie Viard is the new godmother of the House of Chanel. She is the one to watch.

Chanel Cruise 2019/2020 was the debut collection of Karl’s most trusted colleague. The theme was “Train station” and even though it was chosen six months ago by the Kaiser himself, the theme symbolizes Virginie’s new role as the engine behind the brand.

The collection is beautiful and plain, elegant and structured. The colours are strong, bold and soothing. The accessories are modern, fun and easy to combine. The hair is typically French, loose, simple, free, without accessories. The make up is neutral, only the dark lipsticks stand out.

A number of the brand’s recognizable styles and features are present. The tweed suit, the jersey jumper, the cuffs, the bow, and of course, the camellia.

The Chanel Cruise 2019/2020 collection is soft and vivid, plain and colourful, old and new at the same time. Virginie mixed the Chanel elements with an admirable excellence.

My darlings, feast your eyes on the new Chanel.
